KEY FACTS
Growing up in a musical home, JAylien fell in love with music production at a very early age.
Possessing a “futuristic/euro pop” sound, JAylien is looking to separate himself within the industry as an innovator.
Having produced one of the biggest singles of the year, JAylien is looking to prove that he can be a consistent hitmaker worthy of being mentioned amongst the biggest names in the game.
KEYS: What’s good, we’re glad we could get you in from outer space to sit down and talk with us for a little bit, lol. How’s the galaxy treating you.
JAylien: The galaxy is treating me really well. You know, the atmosphere is great here, quiet and peaceful. So much different from the place called Earth. I appreciate you having me.
KEYS: You’ve burst on to the scene by producing Akon’s “Beautiful”. It seems like you’ve been blessed with overnight success, but that’s hardly ever the case. How long have you been producing for and how did you get into it.
JAylien: Yea, "Beautiful" from the outside looking in does seem like overnight. But it’s just one of the first accomplishments from a long journey. I've been producing since I was 11 years old. I didn't really take it serious until I was 18. I got into it cause my earth parents are both Christian musicians. They wrote and produced songs together, sang at weddings, performed at contests. My mother bought all this recording equipment and put it in the house....so I was always surrounded by Christian music.
KEYS: How would you explain your sound, who/what were your influences.
JAylien: My sound is REALLY futuristic. Since I live in the year 3009, my sounds are not from Earth. I'm actually a type. When I was abducted to Planet Pop, they made me a TYPE 2010 species. So that's where Jaylien 2010 comes from.
My influences are Euro-Pop, Dance, Techno, 80's Pop hits. I love Europe’s music scene, its way more advanced than the USA. My favorite producers are Quincy Jones, Max Martin, Timbaland, Danja, Dr.Luke, Polow Da Don, and Fernando Garibay. They all push the envelope of music and consistently make HOT...HIT records.
KEYS: What do you think of the latest euro-pop trend that is taking over the North American music sound-sphere.
JAylien: I love the Euro-Pop trend. That's more of my sound anyways. I think it’s good for music, ‘cause it’s one of the lowest points in American History. It’s a recession, a depression. People want to have fun, hear happy uplifting music. People wanna’ dance, that's why Lady Gaga is so damn successful! Wat’ Up GAGA!! Haha.
KEYS: Describe to us how you got “Beautiful”into Akon’s hands.
JAylien: How I got "Beautiful" in Akon’s hands. One word, EFE...lol. That's my manager. I made the song July 17th, 2008. It was about 4am. I never met Akon, I didn't know my manager yet, and I had NO Konvict affiliation. But when I made it on Planet Pop, I knew if I went to Earth with the song that it would have a good chance of getting placed. I met my manager by mistake. He happened to be great friends with Akon. He asked did I have anything for Akon, and that's the first song that came to mind.
I gave it to him, he played it for Akon. 2 days later me and Akon recorded it in the studio and the rest is history!
KEYS: Are you currently signed to Konvict?
JAylien: Haha, I get this question a lot. No I'm NOT signed to Konvict. Konvict is fam, I'm Konvict fam but not signed with the label.
KEYS: Has Akon tried to throw you off a stage or a mixing console, or anything like that? LOL.
JAylien: HAHA, naw...he never tried to throw me. We go bowling tho, he can throw the bowling ball down the lane pretty good....haha.
KEYS: What type of stuff were you using to make your music before all this success and what have you switched over to now?
JAylien: .In my eyes, I'm not successful yet. I have a hit record and I'm on my way to success, there's soooo much more in store! But before the success of the song, way before the success, I was using straight Fruity Loops 4. No keyboards, nothin’. All my tracks were straight FL Studio.
Then in 2005, I got my first Mac Laptop. And started using Logic 7....I did my music in logic, then the drums in fruity loops. Now I use just straight Logic...I've been doin’ Logic Pro for 2 years now.
But since the success I've bought new VST's...all the top sounds...gotta’ stay on top mannnn!
KEYS: What is your favourite piece of hardware and software to use.
JAylien: My favorite piece of hardware and software to use.
My set up is this: MacBook Pro Midi Controller 2 crate speakers Logic Pro8 Native instruments Absynth Massive Spectrasonics Atmosphere Spectrasonics Trilogy Spectrasonics Remix
And a few others from Space…
KEYS: What type of mind state do you get into when making a track. How does your approach differ from song to song.
JAylien: As u can tell from the video blog I did. "HOW I MADE THAT SONG." U can see that I listen to Euro-pop/Techno/Dance music everyday....all day before I make music. That whole sound is just so crazy to me. That's where music is gonna’ be real soon.
Anyone who knows me knows that I like calming music...u know...most (of) the European stuff is real relaxing. So my mind state is chill.
KEYS: So what’s next for JAylien.
JAylien: Next for Jaylien: I promise u, my fans and friends, that A LOT of new hot music will be out. Trust me. This year is gonna’ be huge...I started the year off with 1 hit...gonna’ end with more just stay tuned...
KEYS: What is the significance behind your name?
JAylien: The significance behind my name... My Earth name is John. But I was born on Planet Eurhythma, and raised on Planet Pop. Every one called Me J or Jay, for short. So when I started making music, and bringin’ it to earth...everyone noticed how advanced I was, age wise and musically. My alien natives wanted me to stand out, so they gave me a name to match my music: Jaylien 2010. That's my type. It’s not the year.....lol. But in a way it is...wait till u see wat goes down for Jaylien in 2010. God is amazing!
KEYS: Now, since “Beautiful” is your biggest song to date, lets break it down a little bit. What was the tempo for that song.
JAylien: The tempo for Beautiful is 130bpm.
KEYS: What element did you start off with first, the drums, melody, etc…
JAylien: To see the whole process of how I made "Beautiful". Check out the blog of my walk thru...

KEYS: You also had a part in writing the song, how was that process like.
JAylien: The writing process. We just really wrote it about all the beautiful women that we have met. We wanted clean lyrics and radio friendly. It was real smooth and easy to write...u know. I had a blast.
KEYS: What do you think mainstream music is going to sound like in the future. What trends have you noticed in the past.
JAylien: I love where music is going. I think electronic, euro-pop is dope. It’s a great sound and makes people open their eyes, to other sounds, other genre's. I love music!!!
KEYS: I know you’ve got to get back out into space, so thank you for sitting down and talking with us.
